When the designation “does not accept unsolicited applications” appears on a funder’s profile in The Catholic Funding Guide Online, it means that the funder has checked a box on their tax return form 990. There are many reasons a funder may do this, from a stipulation in their bylaws or simply to lower the number of applications they receive.
We make the effort to include funders that check this box because often this changes from year to year, and because a particular grant seeker may wish to cultivate a relationship with them regardless.
If a funder seems right for you in other respects — geographic focus, interest areas, mission, etc. — we recommend researching them further and contacting them directly to see if they would be open to an application for your specific project.
